THE LRA rebel leader, Joseph Kony�s father, Mzee Obol Aluji, is dead. He died in Mengo hospital at 6:00pm on Thursday.
Gulu resident district commissioner Max Omeda said Aluji died of natural causes.
He said the Government would finance the burial.
Omeda, Gulu Archbishop John Baptist Odama and Lt. Col. Charles Otema Awany, the intelligence co-ordinator of Operation Iron Fist which is hunting for Kony, were making burial arrangements in Gulu yesterday.
The presidential advisor on political affairs, Maj. Roland Kakooza Mutale, told participants at a Kalangala Action Plan workshop in Gulu last year that the government was looking after Kony�s parents.
Efforts to get a comment from Kakooza Mutale yesterday were
fruitless. His spokesman Chris Kyeswa Jr. was also not available by press time.
Sources said Kony�s father was staying in Mukono with his wife.
Otema said the body was on the way from Kampala to Gulu where it will spend the night. The body will be buried at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Gulu.
Omeda said relatives did not want the body to be taken to Odek, Kony�s ancestral home, due to the insecurity in the area.
People in Gulu received with shock the news of the death of Kony�s father.
Many gathered in small groups on shop verandas talking in whispers for a greater part of yesterday.Ends
