LRA REBELS CONITUE TO CARRY OUT AMBUSHES IN ACHOLI DISTRICTS (BRIEF, GENERAL)
The situation in North Uganda is evermore dramatic, where the rebels of the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army), continue to carry out incursions in the districts of the Acholi ethnic group. MISNA sources report that, during the night between last Saturday and Sunday, a small village located less than 2km from Namokora (60km east of Kitgum, archdiocese of Gulu) was assaulted by the ‘Olum’ (as the LRA rebels are called in the Acholi language). A boy and two young girls were savagely killed in the attack. In the same circumstance, numerous children were also abducted by the rebels, which are all to be enlisted in the ranks of the rebel-armed movement of Joseph Kony, a visionary crazy man that has been fighting against the government of Kampala for over sixteen years. Instead, last Sunday, a civilian pick-up was ambushed by the ‘olum’ near Cwero (25km from Gulu, on the road towards Kitgum). A woman was killed in the ambush, whilst the vehicle was set alight. One thing is certain: insecurity has spread throughout all the Acholi districts (Gulu, Kitgum and Pader) and there is great fear for ulterior rebel incursions, despite the deployment of regular soldiers and military vehicles on the field.
