Several people were killed in different skirmishes between the army and the Joseph Kony rebels in Gulu and Kitgum districts over the weekend.
In Awach sub-county, Gulu, more than 60 grass-thatched huts were torched when a group of Kony's Lord's Resistance Army rebels raided the area on Friday.

Fort-four of the people abducted were rescued in a battle at Oroko in Aswa (Gulu) on Sunday, said UPDF 4 Division spokesman Lt. Paddy Ankunda yesterday.
Another group of rebels raided Palabek Kal camp, 40km north of Kitgum.
And stray UPDF bullets killed one child in Paracelle parish.
On Sunday, seven rebels were killed in Abam, Palabek Gem sub-county, Kitgum.
One rebel was captured and two SMGs recovered. One UPDF soldier died and two injured.
In Alero, Gulu, one rebel surrendered with four former abductees.
"The rate at which the rebels are surrendering is encouraging," Ankunda said. "We have a lot of hope that the war is coming to an end."
