Eight people were shot dead by the Lord's Resistance Army rebels in three separate ambushes in Pader and Gulu districts on Tuesday afternoon.
Six passengers died instantly when they fell into a rebel ambush at Porogali in Pajule, Aruu county, about 20kms north-west of Pader district headquarters.
Two others were killed in Gulu.
The six passengers were reportedly travelling from Lira to Kitgum on a Dyna truck Reg. No. UAB 029X.
Kitgum Resident District Commissioner Lt. Santo Okot Lapolo and LC-V Chairman Nahman Ojwee confirmed the ambush occurred at about 3:00 p.m.
Six other travellers suffered serious injuries and were taken to Pajule Catholic Health Centre and Kitgum government hospital.
Meanwhile, a Dyna truck Reg. No. UAA 878R was ambushed and burnt by the rebels in Gulu.
The ambush took place at Corner Agula in Lalogi sub-county, about 37 kms south-east of Gulu town.
Mr. Solomon Nyeko, the truck driver, died on the spot and his body was left burning in the vehicle, eyewitnesses said.
Two other travellers, Mr. Charles Kidega and Mr. Simon Ojok, suffered serious injuries.
A boda boda cyclist, Mr. Michael Opiyo, was also shot dead the same day in Patiko sub-county.
He was returning from Pajule where he had dropped a client.
Rebels have repeatedly staged ambushes at the same spots.
