PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni on Sunday summoned security chiefs to discuss the military offensive against Kony rebels, reports Dennis Ojwee.

Museveni is reported to have called state minister for security Muruli Mukasa, ISO director Brig. Henry Tumukunde and his deputy Col. Elly Kayanja.

Army spokesman in northern Uganda Lt. Paddy Ankunda said Museveni summoned the security chiefs to discuss matters concerning the anti-Kony offensive.

While briefing The New Vision in Gulu on Sunday, Ankuda said Muruli Mukasa promised to join Museveni in the Gulu military camp to help oversee the operation in northern Uganda.

Without giving details of the meeting, Ankunda said Muruli Mukasa promised to help Museveni work out a new military strategy to end the war.

Muruli Mukasa reportedly urged the civil community in northern Uganda, especially in Acholi sub-region, to report Kony collaborators to security organs. He said this was one of the ways of 'combing and uprooting all rebel bases' within the community.

The New Vision could not establish whether Operation Wembley is to extend its operations to the north.

In order to acquaint themselves with the situation in the north, the security chiefs visited Awer, Parabongo and Pabbo internally displaced persons' camps in Kilak county, west of Gulu town.
