State House Denies Firing Tumukunde

STATE House has denied word that the Director General of Internal Security Organisation (ISO), Brig. Henry Tumukunde (right) has been redeployed from the security body.
Reports were rife in the country yesterday that Tumukunde, who is also an Army Representative to Parliament, was replaced by former Security State Minister Muruli Mukasa.
The rumours came immediately after President Yoweri Museveni reshuffled the Cabinet in which he appointed new ministers and dropped some, including Muruli.
�I have not heard about it. There is no communication to that effect,� Presidential Press Secretary Mary Karooro Okurut said.
She advised this reporter to wait for a Radio Uganda news broadcast to tell if there were any more changes in the government.
A cautious Muruli Mukasa said, �I am yet to know. Somebody told me that it was on FM Radio stations. I am waiting for proper communication before I can make any comment,� he said.
�Well it�s all work,� Muruli said when asked about how he would feel sitting in ISO as its director general.
Muruli, as Security State Minister, has been co-ordinating the activities of ISO and the External Security Organisation.
Tumukunde who returned from Nairobi, Kenya about two days ago on official duty, could not be readily contacted.
Similar reports that Tumukunde, a long serving security chief, was relieved of his ISO position, spread like fire last year but the President said the letter allegedly sacking the Brigadier was forged.
