AT LEAST 28 people, including nine suspected killers of a Kampala
businessman, James Ssemwezi Kaggwa, were on Thursday charged before the
MILITARY COURT -MARTIAL.

? WERE ARE THE REST SUSPECT IN FUEL SMUGGLING?.

SECURITY officials have obtained information linking slain Kampala
businessman James Kaggwa Ssemwezi to a ring of fuel smugglers operating
between Mombasa, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Police and
Internal Security Organisation (ISO) sources said yesterday it is
suspected fuel smugglers who were dealing with Semwezi could have hired
the gunmen to kill him after the deal went sour. Ssemwezi, the
proprietor of Shell fuel station near Busega Road roundabout, was killed
by gunmen riding on motorbikes at Busega on June 24.

Hasib Kasiita, 30, a trader of Kyanja on Gayaza Road, one of the nine
accused in the case (MURDER OF SSEMWEZI), whose legs and arm were
shattered by bullets during his arrest, was produced to court on a
stretcher before explaining his ordeal to the court.

Internal Security Organisation (ISO) officials on Thursday afternoon
arrested Joseph Kasiita, one of the most wanted robbery suspects, who
allegedly killed a prominent Kampala businessman, James Kaggwa Ssemwezi,
at Busega, Bukedde, a sister paper to The New Vision, reported
yesterday.

POLICE have arrested 10 people in connection with the Monday murder of a
Kampala businessman, James Ssemwezi Kaggwa. Two other suspects who
resisted arrest were shot dead in Kampala on Tuesday, the Deputy
Inspector General of Police, Julius Odwee, said yesterday. Odwee
revealed this at a weekly press briefing at the President's Office in
Nakasero yesterday. He said one of the dead suspects was Adam Kabuye.
His colleague's identity was still under investigation. "We have made
some success in this case. We got a tip on Tuesday that those involved
in the murder were hiding in Kampala. We stormed the place, killed two
suspects who tried to resist arrest by firing at us, and apprehended
10," he said.

POLICE have arrested a man in connection with the Monday murder of a
Kampala businessman in Busega, a city suburb. The man whose identity
could not be revealed was arrested in Masaka, 120km south west of
Kampala. Police spokesman Assuman Mugenyi was yesterday tight-lipped on
the suspect's identity and other details. "We have arrested a suspect in
connection with the murder of James Ssemwezi Kaggwa.
