Writing on the wall for Donnelly

THE writing is on the wall, bold and clear for the British High Commissioner to Zimbabwe, Mr Brian Donnelly to: "Stop meddling in the affairs of Zimbabwe or risk being kicked out."

This warning by President Mugabe in Nyanga this week, is a clear indication that the Government has had enough of the British envoys involvement in activities, which are incompatible with his diplomatic duties in this country.

Mr Donnellys background and credentials speak for themselves. In short, he is a former British intelligence officer and ambassador to Serbia, where he played a key role in the British and United States forces ouster of the Serbian leader, Slobodan Milosevic from power.

The Tony Blair-led Government therefore strongly believes that in Mr Donnelly, they have found a man of equal stamina to plot and topple President Mugabe and his Government from ruling this country.

Britain, the United States and their European allies have made their intentions on Zimbabwe clear to the whole world when they said they wanted a change of government in Zimbabwe. And the reason is simple to restore white colonial and imperial privileges in Zimbabwe.

Mr Donnelly himself has openly said it is acceptable under international law for a foreign power to advocate change of government in another country. Since his accreditation to Harare in 2001, Mr Donnelly has been doing exactly that.

The British envoys specific mission in Zimbabwe is to assist by all means, the opposition MDC to remove the constitutionally elected Government of President Mugabe from power.

It is an open secret that the MDC is a creation of the British government.

Britain has, through different conduits covertly supported the MDC. There is evidence abound to show that the British government has channelled funds to the opposition party through the Westminster Foundation, local organisations such as Amani Trust, the Law Society of Zimbabwe and some international banks.

There is also overwhelming evidence of Mr Donnelly working with the surviving elements of the notorious former Rhodesian Selous Scouts and South Africas apartheid Democratic Alliance of Tony Leon in efforts to change the Government of Zimbabwe.

Mr Donnellys arrogance and meddling with the internal affairs of this country reached alarming levels when he rushed to Chinhoyi to try and secure the release of 21 white commercial farmers arrested over violence. He went further and disregarded the requirement that all diplomats should inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when travelling outside Harare.

The British envoy hit news headlines, when he ordered non-governmental organisations distributing food in Insiza district last year to take the food to areas where the MDC was campaigning in a parliamentary by-election. The MDC lost the by-election.

Things reached unacceptable levels when the British government through Mr Donnelly orchestrated and funded the failed MDC mass action and stayaway dubbed the "final push" to remove President Mugabe from power early this month.

All this serves to demonstrate what Mr Donnelly is really up to. We need to tell Mr Donnelly that Zimbabwe is not Serbia and President Mugabe is not Slobodan Milosevic.

We remind you Mr Donnelly that this is a different country with a different history. The history of our liberation struggle whose objective was to get back land from his kith and kin and re-distribute it to the majority black people.

That history has a very important bearing on this country today and in the future.

It is now up to Mr Donnelly to heed the Presidents warning or risk being expelled from this country. The writing is on the wall.
