Govt asks house to borrow 100bn for poverty reduction
Parliament has adjourned to next week debate on a motion to allow government borrow about 100 billion shillings for the Poverty Reduction Strategy Program.
According to Finance General duties, State Minister Mwesigwa Rukutana who moved the motion, the money among others fund the existing programs like plan for modernization of Agriculture, water ad sanitation primary Health Care and feeder roads.
However Speaker of Parliament Hon. Edward Ssekandi adjourned debate after MPs led by Hon. James Mwandha expressed concerns that according to the report of the committee on National economy, government has not indicated clearly how the money is to be utilized and commitment to safeguard against misappropriation.
However Hon. Rukutana says that government has done everything possible to ensure that transparency and accountability hence the request should be honored since the money has already been projected in this year�s budget.
