Misplaced and outright illegal calls for a transitional government in Zimbabwe recently made through a disgraced newspaper, the New York Times, by Colin "Uncle Tom" Powell have served to remind the international community of the continuing dangers of American global arrogance, institutionalized racism, abuse of weapons of mass destruction and diplomatic unilateralism in international affairs. They have also exposed the real agenda of local proponents of "exit plans", who have been running around either mediating or planning for a so-called transitional government in Zimbabwe. However you look at it, when all is told, the idea of a transitional government in this country is fundamentally, if not only, about the removal of President Mugabe from office outside the democratic, legal and constitutional process through and under which the President assumed office in March 2002. No wonder proponents of the so-called transitional government are mum about how long their transition would be since they rightly fear it could be for a very long time indeed due to the uncertainty that always accompanies transitional governments. In other words, whereas � like those before it � the current Zanu- PF Government is a direct legal and constitutional product and _expression_ of the popular will of the people arising from the March 2002 presidential plebiscite, the talked about transitional government about which Uncle Tom Powell is making Bush noise would be headed by somebody, whoever that could be by the grace of God or the spirits, not elected by the people of Zimbabwe in any way, shape or form. Put simply, the so-called transitional government being peddled in the corridors and verandas of enemies of democracy in and outside Zimbabwe would be a coup. Transitional governments always follow coups, Pakistan is a case in point, or negotiated settlements immediately after a war, as is currently happening in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Zimbabwe is not at war and therefore does not need a transitional government. The only exception would be if, for some strange and inexplicable reasons, some people have an interest in a coup � a development that would be unfortunate and totally unacceptable to the majority of Zimbabweans and the rest of the civilised world. Consider the following. There would be no election for the head of the so-called transitional government. Instead there would be an imposition on the people of Zimbabwe of some "agreed" acceptable jolly good fellow who would have to be an Uncle Tom capable of following and implementing instructions. As such, the jolly good fellow would obviously have to be endorsed by Uncle Sam in Washington to ensure the illegal protection and entrenchment of Anglo-American economic and racial interests in Zimbabwe, especially with regard to the dreamed of reversal of the gains of the Third Chimurenga. In the same vein, ministers of the ill-conceived transitional government would have to be Uncle Toms in their own right and would thus be selected for their real or perceived love and fear of things American and British matched only by their hatred of things African, especially black things having to do with Zimbabwe�s sovereignty. This explains why sellout MDC elements, wherever they are found in and outside that treacherous party, are particularly keen on the so-called transitional government. They want to come to power via the back door because they know only too well that they have no chance of having any other puppet winning a nationwide presidential election. Yes, they can win a constituency here and a constituency there but that is all. On the surface, those who are dying for a transitional government in Zimbabwe have an imaginary common purpose that they find in hollow claims about good governance, human rights and economic recovery. That is why they have cheated themselves into foolishly believing that their wish for the illegal and unconstitutional removal of President Mugabe from office would bring about democracy and economic growth and development. Their common purpose is imaginary because upon closer scrutiny what emerges from the various calls for the so-called transitional government is an axis of evil against Zimbabwe anchored in America, Britain and among Rhodies worldwide with their local puppets. None of the evil partners in this axis has any interest in democracy, good governance, economic recovery or anything approximating these things. No. Not a single one. The Americans are making Bush noise over Zimbabwe principally because they are rewarding Tony Blair�s Labour Party, and particularly Blair and Jack Straw, for having been willing tools in the campaign of lies and deception against Iraq and in the subsequent mass destruction of property and economic infrastructure and mass murder of innocent Iraqis whose numbers are yet to be accounted for. Walter Kainsterner, the United States Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, whose wife is a Rhodie who not only lived in this country but who also has had agri-business interests in Malawi, jumped on the opportunity given to him by Bush�s offer to reward Blair for help in Iraq by taking on Zimbabwe on behalf of British kith and kin, especially Rhodies like Kainsterner�s wife. Now Blair and Straw are strategically quiet because they imagine they can hide their colonial history and agenda in Zimbabwe by letting loose Bush and Powell. But because Powell is a naive Uncle Tom who knows next to nothing about Africa, let alone Zimbabwe, Kainsterner � the real master in this case � is speaking recklessly through Powell and that is why Kainsterner wrote that shallow and false opinion piece published by the New York Times under Powell�s name. Therefore, Bush�s wish to reward Blair has nothing to do with democracy, good governance, human rights or economic recovery. It is just pure racism. It�s a case of two Anglo-Saxons using lies and deception to help their kith and kin against unsuspecting black Africans. For this reason, both Bush and Blair � who had no problem invoking the false cause of liberating Iraq to destroy that country and kill its people under the cover of a campaign based on lies and deception � have no problem using lies and deception, including economic sabotage such as colluding with some banks and retail shops to deprive the economy of bank notes in order to cause disaffection in the population. This is a strategy of justifying a coup in Zimbabwe in the form of a transitional government. The Americans did this against Nkrumah in Ghana and the documentation on that is now out for the public to read. As for Rhodies worldwide, there is more than enough evidence to show beyond any silly doubt that they have never ever wanted democracy, good governance, human rights and economic growth and development for everyone. All that the Rhodies want is to illegally cling onto ill-gotten prime agricultural land and for this they are prepared to use lies and deception, invoking falsehoods around the rule of law, democracy, good governance, human rights and economic recovery. But, because they have diehard Selous Scouts in their ranks, Rhodies have been taking advantage of the entrenched culture of peace, reconciliation and general civility of Zimbabweans to sabotage the economy, smuggle goods out of the country, externalise forex, abuse human rights of individuals and blaming that on the authorities, bribe journalists to get them to publish false stories and so on. The results of these destructive activities by Rhodies are now being used to legitimate a coup through calls for a transitional government as some kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. On their part local puppets and others in the anti-Zimbabwe axis of evil want money and power, not democracy, human rights or economic recovery. In fact, this lot is at the forefront of destroying the very same economy they say requires recovery. Just examine who is in the parallel market, who is procuring fuel, from whom, for how much and in what currency; where they are selling the fuel and for how much; and look at what some banks, retail shops and supermarkets are doing with the bank notes, especially the $500 notes, that go through their hands and you will begin to understand that democracy and economic recovery are not the issue here. Yet these folks are claiming Zimbabwe needs a transitional government produced outside an election. They want a coup. But Zimbabweans have a collective duty to defend their heritage, institutional practice and constitutional legacy. They also have a duty to defend their leaders, indeed their President. In a democracy, all exists and entrances must be through one door: elections. Political parties must have their leaders democratically elected by their members in terms of the rules and constitutions of the parties in question. In the same spirit, the people of Zimbabwe must democratically and constitutionally elect their heads of state as an _expression_ of our sovereignty. Full stop. When the right price is wrong The current price mania gripping the imagination of every policy analyst or economic expert with an opinion to proffer is now getting out of control and is risking becoming part of the ill-fated attempts to sabotage the economy in the vain hope of forcing regime change. Pricing is indeed a useful economic tool for policymaking in a market-based environment where the relationship between supply and demand is rational such that particular price fluctuations attract commensurate supply responses. But it is madness to rely on pricing as a policy instrument in an environment such as we have in Zimbabwe today of de facto sanctions imposed for political reasons to effect regime change and where there is artificial scarcity of every conceivable commodity with some significant value. In an environment of this kind, the right price is always wrong. It is foolhardy to go for price stability in an economy like ours that is being sabotaged for political reasons. Price stability is not achievable outside a normal market-based economy. Instead, what is required in our situation is product stability made possible by thoughtful state intervention, monitoring and supervision. Rather than raising the price of a tonne of maize when we know that we don't have enough of it and when we know the reasons why this is so, it is far better to support the production of more of it. That would stabilise the price while the price would not stabilise production. Rejecting an imaginary unity offer The lead story in Strive Masiyiwa�s Daily News last Monday headlined "MDC says no to unity deal" shows that somebody in that very troubled media stable has become so thoroughly confused, perhaps even mad, that they are now hallucinating in the newsroom and boardroom in South Africa. Just the previous day, Masiyiwa�s Daily News on Sunday had a front-page story with the triumphant banner "Zanu PF accepts MDC". This delusion was building on a misleading main story, again from Masiyiwa�s Daily News the previous week that claimed that Zanu-PF was ready to form a government of national unity with the MDC. Well, it seems these folks are making their own bed, let them lie on it. But they must not reject offers that were never made. The
