Ali hails Orombi

Archbishop-elect Henry Orombi

By Milton Olupot

THE First Deputy Prime Minister, Lt. Gen. Moses Ali, has advised the Archbishop-elect, Henry Luke Orombi, to stick to the principles for which he was elected to be able to guide Christians.

Ali, who is also the Minister of Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, lashed out at the religious leaders in the north for sleeping on the streets of Gulu.

He was speaking recently at a party organised by the Alur community in Kampala to congratulate Orombi on his ascension to the highest Episcopal Church office in the country.

Your responsibility has multiplied. This signifies an increase in your problems too, because the people you are leading have religious, social and even political problems that you have to help solve, he said.

Ali said Orombis election was a source of pride for northern Uganda.

You have come at the right time when there is insecurity in the north that needs united efforts to solve, he said.

Ali called on Christians to continuously pray for the Archbishop so that God guides him in his work.

Orombi hailed outgoing Archbishop Dr. Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo for the work he has done for the Church and thanked the House of Bishops for electing him. He promised to work with everyone.

I am a rural Bishop and coming to Kampala is no mean achievement. If I had a choice I would say No but my commander is above and I cannot. I pray that you correct me when I go wrong, Orombi said.
