Why confuse this fellow with facts? Notice how he was telling us that the imaginary episode of Muteesa II importing arms was written up in several sources. Our learned friend seems to think that if a lie is repeated often enough, it will somehow become fact.
No doubt, as a reputed former "intelligence" or rather secret-police operative, he knows the value of a disinformation and misinformation campaign.
Trouble is, as a great mind once remarked, "you cannot lie to all the people all the time".
Unfortunately WMD and the mirage of African uranium or Gailey Roberts won't be the last time power-junkies resort to outright lies.
Thanks to Uganda Argus, Transition, the Hansard, etc it is easy to dismiss some of the fiction in Uganda's politics.

ps: I urge to get hold of a copy of Ibingira's other book, which is also better known: The Forging of An African Nation. Though published after his release from 5 years of detention by Obote, it was largely written before he was detained (and therefore is immune to the 'bias' & 'bitterness' excuse that has been proferred). It is quite revealing too.

I did not say at any point that Ibingira's piece was not revisionist. What is interesting though is that Ibingira who was a key UPC insider totally contradicts your version. So whose word is right? I need to see conclusive evidence, one way or another. Can you get some British authorities or documentation to collaborate your story?
I totally disagree with your justification for overthrowing the constitution. The Prime-Minister had control of the army and intelligence services, he could have kept the army at attention and had the President removed by parliament through the right procedures. Mutesa could have been removed as President without overthrowing the constitution.It is clear that we cannot expect democracy from Obote and his colleagues if they genuinely believe that the solution to their perceived problem was military. Clearly Obote set the precedent for militarism in Uganda by his actual use of military force. There is no escaping this fact.
By the way, I read the entire piece. As a rule I do not respond until I read the entire piece to which I am responding.
