July 16, 2003 Government is deporting the man who stole a ride on an American presidential plane from South Africa to Entebbe last week. "He has been declared persona non grata, so he is unwanted here," Police Spokesman Assuman Mugenyi said last evening. "The minister of Internal Affairs has decided that he be deported tomorrow [today]," he said. He declined to say which flight the intruder will take. "This is an arranged departure," Mugenyi said. "So he has to be escorted to ensure he reaches where he goes." The man, Sello Patrick Litheko, 30, reportedly flew on the White House press corps plane from South Africa to Uganda last Friday. He pretended to be a journalist covering the visiting American President, George W. Bush. Earlier, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Dr Ruhakana Ruganda, told Parliament that Mr Litheko was to be deported to South Africa, but did not say when. Rugunda said the intruder would stand trial in South Africa. Litheko was arrested at Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel, Entebbe, on July 11 shortly after arriving from South Africa with President Bush's party. Rugunda said that the government had agreed with South Africa and the United States to deport Litheko. "The US government is continuing with the investigations to see how he managed to travel undetected," the minister said. It was not possible to corroborate this information from the US Embassy last evening. The US government is meeting the deportation costs, Rugunda said. The minister rebutted local press reports that the Ugandan government had denied the South African Embassy officials access to Litheko. The
