The Association of Ugandans living in the UK is to debate the proposed referendum on the return to a multiparty political system.

The association will hold a convention on August 2 in London, according Mr Dickson Wasajja, the coordinator for the Ugandan delegation to the convention.

He was yesterday addressing a press conference at National Theatre in Kampala.

The association consists of various Ugandan organisations and pressure groups in the UK.

Th groups include the Uganda People's Congress (UPC), Democratic Party (DP), Conservative Party (CP), Justice Forum and the Reform Agenda.
The government wants to call a referendum in 1995 but multiparty advocates say that it is unnecessary.

Former presidential candidates Mr Chapaa Karuhanga, Dr Kizza Besigye, Mr Kibirige Mayanja and former president Mr Godfrey Binaisa have been invited to the convention.

Former ministers Mr Eriya Kategaya and Mr Bidandi Ssali, Lubaga South MP Mr Ken Lukyamuzi and Katikamu North MP, Mr James Kinobe have also been invited.
