University official in jail over defilement By Felix Basiime July 26, 2003
| An administrator at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has been remanded on defilement charges.
Mr Vincent Mujuni is an administrative assistant in the Dean of Students Office. He was charged on July 24 in Mbarara Chief Magistrate's Court.
The Chief Magistrate Ms Margaret Tibulya remanded him to Kakiika Prison until August 28 when the case will come up for mention.
She did not allow Mujuni to plead to the charges because defilement is a capital offence only triable by the High Court.
He will have to spend a mandatory period of 365 days on remand for a capital offence. Thereafter he will be committed for trial in the High Court.
Mujuni is accused of defiling a 16-year-old P.6 pupil of Uganda Martyrs Primary School in Kamukuzi Division.
Mujuni is said to be married with two children.
