BRING MUSEVENI TO TRIAL FIRST.
Those saying Obote should be tried should try Museveni because he has committed more serious crimes than Obote and Amin did. The supporters of this view base their urguement on the fact that Obote and Amin killed many people. How many has Museveni killed? Museveni is accountable for all the sculls of Luwero and currently the sons and daughter of acholiland.
The propaganda that the past regimes did nothing but harm to Ugandans so that he can consolidate himself for the third term no longer holds water.you should not just say that tr obote on grounds of committing crimes against humanity in the name of killing.
Compare other crimes like corruption,the economic crisis to mention a few. these to gether with murder are more common in the current government than the past. so whoever thinks of tring obote should evaluate the current government and see who has the budden of being tried than the other.

Just because someone with power today tells you that Obote killed, doesn't mean he did.
Shame on you! You couldn't put Idi Amin on your so-called murder "trial". The man who could cut the throats of his enemies in public arenas or rip their hearts out in gruelling firing squads in front of their loved ones.
Amin, whose State Research Bureau boys throughout Uganda, beat, maimed, raped, shot and killed people everyday in clubs, streets, hospitals, homes and offices for fun.
But you never pursued him! He died a free man - and only yesterday.
All Ugandan leaders who fought Amin instead turned their swords on each other. Not on Amin that they fought. Shame again!
Prime Minister from 1962 to 1967 and President from there to 1971. Who did Dr. Obote kill during this period? List their names. And show the mass graves.

Obote was simply a politician. And that was all. Tell me who is not dirty in politics? Obote put knots in people's smomachs and soothed hearts in others. And that is the way it goes even in your politics today. And the world over.

The deaths and human skulls etc. But who started the war? And why? Wasn't this a greedy guerilla war started over power?
Who knows who did and who did not kill in the Luwero war? Government troops or the guerillas? No one will ever know the truth. Probably both did as civilians came in the crossfire. Or was someone doing the killings to betray Obote and his government?
Would people have died in Luwero had the war not been there? The answer is NO. And again, why wasn't there deaths in Rukungiri, Toro, Mbale, Apac, Jinja, Soroti, Kitgum, Pakwach,
Kabale, etc? That is if Obote was a killer. Why was it quiet in all the other places? No patterns of killings at all. Tell us why!

He has paid a price for being somewhat a dirty politician. He was toppled twice by his own senior aides. He now lives in exile. And yet he is the nation's fath er. Might even die there and gets no decent burial deserving his sacrifices for Uganda.

Indeed, you raised a very serious point. In matters pertaining to courts, hear syas are not tolerated, in fact that is contempt in itself to testify wrongfully based on inuendo and propagnda.
When talking about Milton Obote and condemning him enmassed, we have to think analytically twice and (or) thrice.
The one thing I shall challenge you all on, is to tell us clearly and carefully what the Human Rights Review Commision that Museveni instituted in those early days was meant for, what it's conclusions/resolutions are and who it is meant to serve.
I have a copy and in summary, this commission, truly found no individual crime commited by Obote, infact, the report even exhonorate the Obote one regime. It however runs short of pointing out the role of NRA in the Luwerto triangle human massacre.
Indeed, I want all of us debating this topic, to try to examine the role of NRA in the Luwero triangle, as a basis of understanding the war crimes that we are ululating about.
Otherwise, the guerrillars were not looking for love and bananas in Lu wero, they were ambushing buses and causing subversion of all sorts, read Fred Guwedeko's letter about the successes of Kony then you will understand.

It's insanity or just pure tribal zealotism boiling in your heads? Do you really have the guts and the energy or the wit to put Dr. Apollo Milton Obote to trial simply for having been president? And simply for being a northerner. Nilotics verses Bantus type thing?
Dr.Obote was simply the nation's father. He was a genius politician, a stateman, a gentleman, a nationalist(just like other independence fathers), a peace lover, a mentor to all Ugandan presidents, and a friend of all Ugandans.
And yes, he was tough. He had to be. And his oppo nents hated that. But nobody will ever claim these values from him.
He was one of a kind. He'll be irreplaceable in the politics of Uganda in that sense. We all know this.
Despite being a Lango, Obote appeased the Baganda and other Bantu tribes with decent and lucrative government positions better than he did with his northern counterparts.
But now you break a stick in his butt. His northern region remained as poor as they are today. Because he did nothing there. And you are a witness to this. Your current leader mocks him for that regularly. He pocks fun at it.
Acholis are still dying. And they died in all previous regimes. They never gained from any political system in Uganda and yet every one in power must crucify them. They were in the British colonial army for defense of Uganda. Not for power playing as been alleged.
The army was stigmatized as the place of the uneducated and a den for the ugly-looking people. But Acholis embraced it. Do they have to pay a price for that with their blood?
Today the Ugandan army is an empire of political power, lucrativeness and royalty. All of a sudden it's not for nation defense, but to push the "hated" on the highway curb.
Obote was not a tribalist. Northerners gained nothing from the Obote governments. Obote was pro-Bantu. And now you want to hang him as well?
He has paid a price for being somewhat a dirty politician. He was toppled twice by his own senior aides. He now lives in exile. And yet he is the nation's father. Might even die there and gets no decent burial deserving his sacrifices for Uganda.
It's SHAMEFUL, DISGUSTING, STUPID and UNFAIR that Ugandans can compare Obote to Amin. Sounds like a joke. You can't give any credit to Obote, you'll never give any Ugandan president any credit. Read Museveni's book and see how he described Obote.
In paraphrasing, he said, "With Obote, one could hassle and play politics and win . But with Amin, you were boiled alive in oil. We simply had to leave the country."
I'll be surprising that his government ever puts Dr. Obote on trial for anything, anywhere on this planet.
Stop this madness! The topic is not worthy of discussion. History will judge bitterly those who are drunk with power today.
