Many of us had very high hopes on the African occupants of the South African presidency, for spear-heading African democratic and human rights rennaissance. But, wapi! Just like the current UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, they have been a very big dissapointment. Mandela can be excused. But Mbeki, who even used the phrase 'African rennaissance' himself, has no excuse; this man has shown that he is no real leader, and his words are not worth echoing (or even sometimes believing). Especially in the Burundi case.

I have to agree with your assessment of SA President Thembo Mbeki. The only African Leader who has stood up for the African cause is none other then our own President Robert Mugabi of Zimbabwe.
When forces of Western Imperialism lead by Dictator Yoweri Museveni of Uganda attacked the DRC Republic of the Congo in a move to consolidate and champion Imperialist interest in that Congo, It was Zimbabwe under the abled leadership of Commrade President Robert Mugabi who come to the rescue of the CONGO.
The Mbeki's /Mkapa were nowhere to be seen... perhaps hiding behind the tail coats of their Masters in London and Washington all along shivering in their boots afraid to utter even a single word of criticism of condemnation of Museveni's Actions ..let alone deploy troops to help fight off Museveni's forces of aggression in the Congo
Only to emerged much later and issue some sort of lukewarm "condemnation" of Yoweri Museveni's/Kagame's behavior in the Congo. This then is the Kind of so called leaders we have in Africa.
In the meantime, because of Yoweri Museveni/Kagam's aggression against DRC, over 4 Million african perished!!!!
