More reinforcements have been sent to Bundibugyo in the wake of fears of a possible attack by rebels of the Allied Democratic Front (ADF).

"We had forces in Bundibugyo district. We have increased our forces and the military equipment to handle any eventuality," army spokesman Maj. Shaban Bantariza said yesterday.

He however down played reports that the rebels pose a serious security threat.

"The commander [Col. Poteli Kivuna] just excited people unnecessarily. The deployment is more of a precautionary measure than a response to an immediate attack. I don't think they [ADF] can attack us. They can only attack the Wanaichi for a short time to steal cows," Bantariza said.

The 2nd Division Commander, Col. Poteli Kivuna, said on Monday that the rebels are re-organising in Kamango and Bunduguya in Ituri Province in the DR Congo.

Ntoroko County MP, Rogers Matte said yesterday that the wanaichi have been receiving information about an impending attack on Bundibugyo district.

"The locals after interacting with people in the DR Congo said they have been told that the ADF is re-organising to attack again," Mr Matte said.

He said the wanaichi are living under fear.

"Obviously the locals are living under fear, considering what they went through in the past. But we encourage them to be calm," he said.
