MPs should probe Natasha’s lavish bills
I was devastated when I learnt from your esteemed paper that President Yoweri Museveni’s married daughter Natasha Kainembabazi Karugire used state resources up to Shs 180 million to go and deliver in a Germany hospital.
The parallels that you drew on the alternative (and legitimate) uses that money could have been put to are just disarming.
As pointed out by both dailies, I have no problem with Natasha’s preference to push out her baby overseas.
The problem is that she had to wait until such a time when she could not use a commercial flight.
The consequence was that she had to use the presidential jet, which gallops cash like hell. And who picks up the bills? The impoverished common man, who cannot even buy himself a mosquito net or a full course of anti-malarial drugs.
Although the president’s press secretary, Mary Karoro Okurut, said the first daughters are entitled to travel out of the country on state resources, I doubt if they are allowed to take the presidential jet in the absence of the president.
This was another case where the country was robbed. This is a serious issue, which must not be swept under the carpet.
Members of parliament, if at all they still have steam, should tackle this in all fairness until justice is served.
