UPC backs drive - New Vision 16/10/2003
By Joyce Namutebi THE Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has backed the Government on the measles immunisation campaign.
Addressing the weekly press briefing in Kampala yesterday, the chairman Presidential Policy Commission, Dr. James Rwanyarare, said UPC wanted the exercise to succeed.
We want people to trust that doctors will give wholesome treatment,Rwanyarare, who attacked President Yoweri Museveni over his remarks on Ugandan doctors, said.
On Musevenis remarks on the vision for Uganda after 2006, Rwanyarare said the President had never had a vision for Uganda and that the first thing he offered from the bush was Marxism and Leninism.
He accused Museveni of condemning UPC for selling the country to IMF and World Bank yet he goes to the same donors.
Rwanyarare briefed journalists about the vision of UPC and accused Museveni of copying the partys economic recovery programme.
He said the presidents remarks tha
t of the
25.8 million Ugandans nobody has merit or vision deserving the presidency, were troubling.
He said those who followed Museveni to the bush and have been with him in the Government were morons, who can not learn.
Rwanyarare said he used to teach in the medical school together with Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya.
He challenged Museveni to explain whether Bukenya had no vision for Uganda.
He said Museveni wanted to build a powerful army in Africa for which there was no need.
There is no need for first families that become endangered species, he said.
On party registration Rwanyarare said they wanted a good law.
He said on November 3, UPC had been called to the Supreme Court over the Political Parties and Organisations Act 2001 petition.
After the case we shall pick forms and register, he said.
