| Museveni didn�t bring independence
The clips have been back lately. I mean the independence clips on our television screens, especially from UTV. They show a brief lowering and raising of the flags, with grainy pictures of people clapping. Then we are treated to a full footage of President Yoweri Museveni swearing in, then his combatants � the whole works. Nothing is shown of the man (Milton Obote) who played a major role in bringing independence to this country. It makes one wonder how people can be taken for fools. What are our children getting from all this? Confusion. In the class they are taught something else, on the screens they see a different picture! The other day my daughter asked me if really Obote brought independence to Uganda. I had a hard time explaining to her the politics of Uganda. Why is there so much fear and hypocrisy in this country? People should learn to appreciate the good side of someone despite his shortcomings. Either show us the true pictures or do not show anything at all. Edith Ejwang, |
