SPEED FREAKS
Lijun Wang and his team hold the record for the world's fastest moving thing. They have clocked laser pulses apparently travelling through a container filled with caesium gas at a stunning 100 billion metres per second. That's 300 times as fast as the speed of light in a vacuum! The pulses travelled so quickly, they emerged from the container even before they had struck it. The big question is can information encoded by the light travel at the same speed? The answer depends on how you measure it...more
