Moroto
Two civil servants were on Thursday killed by suspected Karimojong warriors on the Moroto-Kangole road.
The deceased were identified as the District Population Officer, Mr Richard Longole, and an Accounts Assistant, Mr Rogers Ogwang.
Local sources said armed warriors fired at a government vehicle Reg. No. LG 0028-32, near Nawaikorot.
Moroto's Chief Administrative Officer Luke Lokuda confirmed the duo's death.
He said they were returning from the field in Matany sub-county where they were carrying out a Unicef-funded birth and registration exercise.
"We are devastated by this loss; we know they cannot be replaced. They were determined and devoted officers," Lokuda said.
He said Longole was the only officer in the district's planning unit. He had just completed his master's programme at Makerere University. He was the one driving the car.
Lokuda said, however, that the Local Defence Units have been deployed to track down the culprits who fled toward Kotido. "The trackers have already found a phone set crushed on their paths and will obviously apprehend them," he said.
