THE Arrow Group will be deployed to guard settlements in the Teso region, while the UPDF engages rebels at the battle front, the army spokesman has said.

Maj. Shaban Bantariza on Saturday said the Arrow Group would be deployed as zonal forces to guard schools, internally displaced peoples camps, health units and along roads.

Bantariza was speaking to journalism students at the United Media Consultants and Trainers (UMCAT)on the role of the media in enhancing national security

He said security was a collective responsibility of all citizens, adding that it was irresponsible for anyone to take it as the duty of the army.

"We may not have resources to train everybody in military/security matters but every responsible citizen must strive to use their abilities to enhance national security. This is the spirit within which the Arrow Group is operating," he said.

He said journalists should be role models in the sustenance of national security through positive writing.

"The way you package your stories either kills or saves lives, so you should choose to save the lives of your people," Bantariza said.

UMCAT principal Daniel Kageni advised the students to always seek the truth. He said it was wrong for members of the public to leave security matters to armed forces only on the grounds they are paid to fight.
