Kony rebels yesterday killed a man and two of his sons in an attack on an
internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Angopet village, six kilometres north
east of Soroti town.
The rebels hacked to death Michael Edoru 65, and his sons Moses Enyou and Sam
Eriechu before chopping off their genitals which they carried away.
The rebels who retreated at dawn through Arapai sub-county, north of Soroti,
also set 13 huts on fire.
The family had fled from Obule-Abitibit, Tubur sub-county in Soroti to seek refuge with a relative in the village after the LRA rebels infiltrated the district.
A survivor who is a daughter to Edoru, Joyce Ameso, said the rebels attacked
the home shortly after mid midnight.
She said about 50 rebels swarmed the home checking all corners with torches.
"Just after the first cock crowed, I saw light outside. I could hear movements and murmurs of people who were speaking in Luo," Ameso said.
She said the rebels took away sh50,000 she had received as allowance for the
anti measles mobilisation, mosquito nets and clothing.
A nephew of the deceased, Martin Awote, said the rebels left behind three letters bearing a stamp with the names of the Brigadier Charles Tabuley.
"The soldiers took away the letters to Ecweru (Musa) but I saw the names of
Tabuley," Awote said. The Third Division spokesman, Lt. David Mbiire, said they
were yet to get details on the letters.
The Soroti RDC also the chairperson of the district security committee, said
he was not aware of the letters. The bodies were taken to Soroti mortuary.
