Walk past the streets of Kampala and all you will see or hear is a woman `complaining about men. Not only they hurl abuses at them but because they also touch them without restraint.
And one wonders what it is. Some of these men are actually married and yet have no respect for women's bodies.
One day in the old Taxi Park, a middle-aged woman was walking ahead of me. A group of men swung around her and uttered all the nonsense there is in the world because she was well endowed at the backside.
"Maaaaaama omukazi aliko amakudde," (My, this woman has very wide hips) shouted one man.
I imagined what would have happened if she had been in the company of her daughter.
Another girl who was dressed in tight jeans passed by, and one man patted her behind.
This one did not get away with it. The girl immediately turned and slapped him hard.
This attracted many more redundant men who nearly beat up the girl. They touched her some more.
I left wondering when a woman shall ever be free. |
