THE Acholi Parliamentary Group has assured the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) to maintain the tight link prevailing between the MPs and the force to end Joseph Kony's rebellion in northern Uganda.

The MPs were on Wednesday meeting the commanding officer of the 4th Division, Col. Nathan Mugisha, and his officers at at Lumumba Hall, Gulu.

The MPs said they would leave Parliament to join local defence forces if their mobilisation for peace talks were not successful.

Mugisha said he appreciated the MPs' willingness to join the armed struggle for peace in the north.

"Let's live to maintain this spirit you have initiated. I can see a nearing end to this war. This is the time we have to denounce violence," Mugisha said.

"It will be useless for us to stay in Parliament in Kampala when people at home are dying. It is better to die with them," Prof. Moses Ogenga-Latigo (Agago county) said.

"Let us have differences in principles but come together when is comes to the security of our people," army MP Col. Elly Kayanga, said.

Santa Okot, the Pader woman MP, said the Government had dedicated ample time for talks.
