Members of the Acholi Parliamentary Group have ended a one-week peace sensitisation drive in Gulu, Kitgum and Pader.

The MPs also met the commanding officer of the army's fourth division, Col Nathan Mugisha last week at his at his military station in Gulu. Col Mugisha praised the Acholi MP's for their collective effort towards peace in the region.

"National security is a collective responsibility," the officer said.

"Now that MP's have joined in peace mobilisation it means that the majority of people are on board," he added.

Mr Zachary Olum, the chairperson of the Acholi parliamentary group said his team would co-operate with the army.

"Politicians in northern Uganda will work together with the UPDF so that the 17 years of violence is brought to an end," Olum said.

The meeting marked the end of the MPs' peace tour. The Gulu local council V chairman, Lt. Col Walter Ochora and the director general of the Internal Security Organisation, Col Elly Kayanja, attended.
