I think the government can regulate nude dances without tampering with people’s free speech!

MENGO - A senior official at Mengo has asked President Yoweri Museveni to ban nude dances, popularly known as ekimansulo, saying they will undo Uganda's gains in the fight against HIV/Aids.

"When the president came out strongly against the homosexuals, they went underground. He should equally condemn the nude dancing," the Minister of Education and Sports in the Buganda Kingdom, Mr J.C. Muyingo, said.

He was presiding at the Open Day for Makindye Junior Academy in Luwafu last week.

Muyingo said the nude dance promoters are envying Uganda's success story in the fight against HIV/Aids.

"It's a contradiction for a government credited for having a success story in the fight against Aids to allow young girls dance naked on stage as men watch," he said. "It's a tragedy; this country is doomed."

Muyingo also asked government to facilitate a cultural and religious leaders campaign against certain western cultural practices.

"There seems to be a ploy to force bad cultures on us. We survived this campaign in the colonial era but it has been re-introduced with big money following it," he said.
