Museveni irks JEMA boss over Kony war
By Nathan Etengu and Sultan Nahdy
JEMA president Mohammed Kibirige Mayanja has criticised President Yoweri Museveni, saying he is using the war in the north to get military assistance from the US.
He said Museveni was using the same war to solicit the approval of the US for the abolition of the presidential two-term limit.
Kibirige Mayanja said the American government was likely to approve Musevenis bid for life presidency.
It will not be a surprise if the US quietly approves Musevenis bid for the 3rd term,he said.
He was on Thursday opening the annual Ramathan Convention at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Mbale.
He said he would continue to oppose Musevenis intention to rule for life.
Kibirige Mayanja, who is also the director for planning at Makerere University, said Museveni had used terrorism and the war in northern Uganda to beg for military assistance from US.
He said the US government in turn intervened in the war by offering satellite intelligence information to the UPDF.
This intervention by the American government in the civil affairs of Uganda may draw wrath from enemies of the US government. We have our own problems. We do not need to invite more problems by internationalising the war in the north,Kibirige Mayanja said.
He said the American government was sponsoring tyranny in exchange for the support for her aggression against other countries.
He castigated the Government for opening up political space instead of allowing full multiparty democracy to take root in the country.
It (government) now wants a hybrid Movement-multiparty system,he said. He advised students in private universities to form associations.
