KAMPALA - The army has deployed in the Rwenzori Mountains to guard against possible attack by the rebel People's Redemption Army and the Allied Democratic Forces.

Army spokesman Maj. Shaban Bantariza has confirmed the deployment. "It is true remnants of ADF are regrouping and the PRA is also planning to attack. They have training camps in the DRC," Bantariza said yesterday.

Bantariza said that PRA rebels had two weeks ago attacked Kyomya and Kasenyi in DR Congo but were repulsed by the UN peacekeeping troops there.

He said the rebels wanted to overrun Tchiomya and Kasenyi in order to cross Lake Albert and River Semliki and link up with their counterparts in Kivu.

Bantariza said the PRA and ADF are active in north Kivu and Ituri. He said renegade UPDF officer Col. Edison Muzoora commanded the Tchiomya-Kasenyi attack. Said Bantariza: "You can ask the United Nations. Muzoora was one of the commanders when PRA attacked Tchiomya and Kasenyi. He has grown a big beard."

The government says Muzoora and Lieutenant Colonels Anthony Kyakabale and Samsom Mande formed the PRA.
