It's the same song that made Parliamentarians show rare dance strokes with Deputy Speaker Rebecca Kadaga doing the paka chini jig earlier in the week. And it was the same song that was played most at The Monitor end of year party at Ggaba Beach on Saturday.

Eno Mic Ya Ziggy D never leaves anybody sitted. You just have to rock your body to the beat. The party started at 2 p.m. with a sumptuous meal though some people were heard saying it should have started under the cover of darkness.

The booze started flowing in plenty like it was being fetched from the lake and by 3 p.m people were already drinking.

But trust scribes, on that day it was confirmed that they are the 'champions of the bottle' as most of them lost count of how many beers they had taken but there was not even a single soul staggering, or speaking mambo jumbo under the influence of alcohol.

The emcee of the day was Monitor FM's Zadoki, who invited the audience to share jokes with him on stage. First, there was a dancing contest with representatives from all departments.

Next on stage was the 'management dancing competition' and Managing Director Wafula Oguttu, Managing Editor David Ouma Balikowa, Financial Controller Peter Kimathi, the radio's Station Manager Andrew Mwenda, Head of Human Resource Martha Elimu and General Manager Sam Sholei doing their thing. But there were no winner or losers at this one. They all passed the test.

The cool evening lake breeze was now blowing and it was a perfect time to award the year's great performers.

Financial Controller Peter Kimanthi (L) hands over a prize to runner-up of the dancing contest Jovita Mirembe.

Sports scribe Douglas Bugingo (R) and celebrity photographer Eddie Chicco.

Long serving staff members including the founders and the best in every department got certificates and plagues. In editorial, Semujju Ibrahim and Richard Kavuma scooped best performers awards, while Angello Izama and Joseph Beyanga of Monitor FM were recognised for their recent international award.

Patrick Kamara also from the radio and Brian Mukisa from Marketing among others walked away smiling too.

One other thing about this year's party was that 'embedded' staffs were asked to come with their spouses, who by the end of the evening, got to know why some Monitor staffers go home late. They work hard.

After the usual party ritual of cutting the cake, the dance floor or rather 'dance grass' was opened and people unleashed all those rare strokes. The only gaffe was the limited choice of music as the Atomic Sounds guys seemed to have only three locally recorded CD's to choose from.
