In the Dec 19, 2003 Monitor we were told that Karim Hirji, Sudhir Ruparelia, and the money launderering criminal van Brink ( Salim Saleh's friend ) fugitive from US law and now 'owning' former CapeTown Villas, all fronting for m7, were refusing to pay Tax (VAT) on hotel accommodations.

You also remember that the recent declaration of m7's wealth showed that he had shares in the local tobacco industry.

Now, the tobacco industry refuses to pay local tax. Will nonsense ever stop?

It is this same 'Gas-bag' m7 that was, sometime ago, urging Ugandans to smoke more to increase govt revenue.

Well, the real concern of this slime-bag of a President was his shares in British American Tobacco Uganda.

And some small minion, a Henry Rugamba, dismisses the issue saying ...... "Let them sue but they will get a [phone] call, could be from a minister asking them to withdraw the case."

The looting of our country is without limit.

Ayume's firm to represent Arua in case against Batu

Dec 22, 2003

ARUA - The district has appointed Ayume, Jogo & Co Advocates to represent it in an impending suit against British American Tobacco Uganda.

Attorney General Francis Ayume is a partner in the law firm. he district council is dragging Batu to court over its alleged refusal to pay more than Shs 500 million that allegedly accumulated in local taxes.

Under the Crop Ordinance passed by the district council in 2000, Batu is expected to pay Shs 20,000 per ton of tobacco that leaves the district for Kampala.

Speaker Ali Adrama told councillors on December 16 that the district has already submitted the name of the legal counsel to the Solicitor General for approval.

"The district has been negotiating with Batu for two years without any positive result. This is why we decided to go to court," Adrama said on Wednesday.

But Batu's Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs, r Henry Rugamba, dismissed the move saying it could be a stillbirth. Let them sue but they will get a [phone] call, could be from a minister asking them to withdraw the case. Batu can leave Arua and go to other districts," he said.

Rugamba said on phone that the Produce byelaw imposes a tax burden on Batu and undermines investment initiative.

Batu is a leading taxpayer to the central government at more than Shs 40 billion annually.
