The former district chairman of Iganga, Mr Patrick Bageya, is the new resident district commissioner for Busia.

Bageya takes over in Busia in a reshuffle that has seen 67 RDCs dropped.

The changes were announced last evening by the President's Office.

Six RDCs, 36 deputies and 25 assistant RDCs have been sacked in the latest reshuffle.

The reshuffle follows similar shake-ups this month in the military and the Internal Security Organisation.

The post of assistant resident district commissioner seems to have been scrapped. All the 25 assistant RDCs have been dropped and no new appointees named.

A reliable government source told The Monitor last evening that the World Bank has been uncomfortable with the huge cost of running government.

And this, he said, could have prompted the President to cut costs.

A release from the Presidential Press Secretary, Ms Mary Okurut, said that Ms Naava Nabagesera, formerly the RDC of Kayunga, has been moved to the State House legal department.

Bageya replaces Mr Nyombi Tembo, who was recently elected member of Parliament for Kassanda South.

The changes have also seen veteran journalist and former Kampala District Speaker, Alhaji Nsereko Abdul, appointed Kyenjojo RDC.

Former ministers Omony Ogaba and Max Omeda have been posted to Arua and Gulu respectively as RDCs, while Mr Musa Echweru has been moved from Kasese to Soroti.

Echweru is deeply involved in the Arrow Group's operations against the Joseph Kony-led rebels in Teso.

Ms Mavenjina Akumu, a former minister of state in Public Service, is now Moyo RDC, while Mr Drani Draniga goes to Yumbe.

The former Kinkizi West MP, Dr Stanley Kinyata, is now RDC Kampala.

He replaces Mr Kiwanuka Musisi, who has been dropped.

Others dropped as RDCs are Charles Egwau (Lira), Bartile Toskin, Charles Rwabuhinga, Odok W'Ocheng and Peter Okwera.

Mr Katenda Luutu has left Kiboga for Kalangala, while Ms Tezira Jamwa has been transferred from Kapchorwa to Kaberamaido.

Ms Margaret Baryehuki replaces Nabagesera in Kayunga, while Charles Mubiru leaves Mukono for Kumi.

Mr Hassan Galiwango has moved from Sembabule district. He now heads to Masindi as Mr Bamusede Bwambale leads Masaka district.

Mr Clement Kandole replaces Mr Joseph Arwata in Mbarara. Arwata is now Kapchorwa RDC.

There are also 30 deputy RDCs who have been appointed to various districts, although leaving some without deputies.
