A local policeman told AFP that the rebels swooped late on
Friday, entering the village of Ayara, some 380 kilometres (230 miles) north of
the capital Kampala.
They attacked around 11:15 pm. They killed one person and they
burned all these houses and looted the shops, the policeman said.
We took one rebel prisoner, a boy of 14, and we handed him
over to the army. He told us that there were 14 attackers in all and that 11 of
them were armed with rifles, he said.
The LRA, notorious
for abducting young boys for forced recruitment in its ranks and for snatching
girls as sex slaves, has waged war against the government of President Yoweri
Museveni for the past 17 years.
The group was suspected of
massacring at least 53 villagers in northern Uganda earlier this week, AFP
reported.
