NAKAPIRIPIRIT Karimojong women from Nakapiripirit are unhappy with the Movement government for dropping key leaders hailing from the district. About 30 members of Namalu Womens Development Association (Nawoda) told The Monitor on December 28 that they would not support President Museveni if he chose to run for another term. Karamoja has always supported Museveni, voting him with percentages in the region of 90. The women said the dropping of Brig. Lakara Nakibus as chief of staff of the army, Col. Andrew Gutti as 3 Division commander and External Security chief David Pulkol all sons of Karamoja was a blow to the region. We have held Museveni and the Movement in high esteem but the way we are being treated indicates that Karamoja is less important to this government, said Ms Lucy Lopuwa, the chairwoman of Nawoda. She said Gutti was instrumental in the recovery of stolen cattle from all ethnic groups in Karamoja. She now fears increased cattle rustling given that Gutti is no longer in charge of 3 Division, which includes Karamoja. The women said they would only resume support for Museveni if he changes his position about the recent reshuffles both in the military and outside of it. What annoys us the most is that even our deputy RDC, who shared our problems travelling all over the district without fear, has been dropped, the women complained. They demanded that Mr John Bosco Odoki be retained as the deputy RDC to help them see through the projects they had designed together. Odoki was dropped in the recent reshuffle of RDCs, while the Nakapiripirit RDC Peterken Lochap was moved to Lira. |
