KAMPALA - The out going Archbishop of Church of Uganda, Rev. Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo has asked leaders not to over stay in power but quit when still in their prime. When you are chasing some one, you have to leave energy to take you back, so leaders when you are leading leave some energy to take you back. Do not finish everything, Nkoyoyo said. He made the remarks on Thursday while bidding farewell to Christians of All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero. Nkoyoyo said some Christians were urging him to ask for another term but he declined because he wanted to leave some energy to take him back to Kyagwe. Alluding to poverty, the archbishop said people should not dispense off all their energy fighting it. Someone says I want to chase poverty and gives his house, land, even chicken to the bank. When he fails to pay the loan, he sells everything, he said. He said the Christians should start singing new songs and forget about the old ones. Stop singing Nkoyoyo, Nkoyoyo, Nkoyoyo; start new songs, he said. The Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi praised Nkoyoyo for not asking for a term extension. He is an enterprising man; he has not asked for an extension of his term so that he finishes his house, he said. He also praised Nkoyoyo for standing firm on homosexuals and bimansulo (striptease dances). He offered the archbishop an-in-calf heifer. Nkoyoyo will hand over office on January 26. |
