Kayihura links MPs to Kony war

KAMPALA- The UPDF Chief Political Commissar, Brig. Kale Kayihura, on Friday accused MPs for perpetuating the northern Uganda war.âSome members of parliament are collaborating with the Lords Resistance Army (LRA). We have the evidence if you want it,â Kayihura said at the official launch of the film, War Child, a documentary that highlights the plight of people in northern Uganda, at Ndere home in Kissasi, Kampala.He accused MPs of misinforming the world about the tragedy that Kony has inflicted on the population in the north. âThey trot the globe, white-washing Kony and the LRA. They claim that Operation Iron Fist is a failure, yet it has rescued hundreds of children from captivity. They claim that more than 10,000 children have been abducted, yet actually the reverse is true,â Kaihura said.He lauded the film for depicting the situation in the north as it is.âWar Child is a force multiplier, which will help tell a true picture of what Kony is and the tragedy he has visited on our people. But above all, it shows the role the UPDF is playing in the fight against banditry,â Kayihura said.War Child starts with Aidan Quinnâs monologue about the Kony mystery and then breaks into action when Vincent Otti (Konyâs commander) with other junior rebels descend on a cool and a peaceful village, kill villagers and the school teacher, and abduct children.The climax of the film is when army spokesman Maj. Shaban Bantariza foils an attempted attack on a village. A few abducted children escape and UNICEF takes care of them. They later reunite with their families.Ndere Troupe members together with the UPDF acted the movie, while renowned filmmakers, Hallmark filmed it with sponsorship from UNICEF.
