Parties plan rally

KAMPALA - Leaders of the seven main opposition groups will hold a rally at Clock Tower tomorrow.The rally has been organised by Makindye West MP Nsubuga Nsambu. Mr Nsambu says that as area MP he intends to consult his constituents on issues of public concern.Nsambu is also the chairman of the breakaway Conservative Party. Lubaga South MP and CP Secretary General Ken Lukyamuzi told The Monitor yesterday that Nsambu has already notified Katwe Police.

Lukyamuzi is helping with organising the rally. Invitations were yesterday sent out to leaders of the seven parties dubbed the Group of Seven.Prof. Frederick Juuko, a law lecturer at Makerere University and chairman of The Free Movement, will speak on the recent Supreme Court judgement annulling the Constitution Amendment Act 2000.Senior UPC official James Rwanyarare will talk about the "violation of human rights in northern Uganda".

The Reform Agenda's Sam Njuba, DP's Paul Ssemogerere, Justice Forum's Kibirige Mayanja and Chapaa Karuhanga of the National Democrats Forum are lined up to speak.Lukyamuzi will talk about federo while Dr John Barya will brief the public about the ongoing dialogue between the G7 and government.Barya heads a parties' committee involved in consultative talks with government about the transition to party politics in the run-up to the 2006 general elections.
