In a scenario feared and predicted by religious and human rights leaders, a rebel cult has killed over 170 people in northern Uganda, following a push into the area by government forces. Rights groups had warned that an attack that failed to provide civilian protections would lead to disaster. Tens of thousands of children, dubbed "night commuters," walk from rural areas to towns seeking safety from kidnapping each night. More than 5000 were kidnapped to become soldiers or sex slaves in nine months last year.
"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the state."
- Dr. Joseph M. Goebbels - Hitler's propaganda minister
