Accusing someone of running a smear campaign against the UPC is akin to accusing someone of running a smear campaign against the Nazis or Kony.
UPC has a record. It is a brutal record and many hundreds of thousands of Ugandan perished at their hand. Do you propose that we should just pretend that we have forgoten all the horrors they visted upon us just because it makes some uncomfortable to talk about it?
Don't you find it strange that none of the UPC has had the spine to even offer an apology to their victims, let alone take responsibility for their deeds? Not even an apology for single handedly destroying Uganda's federal experiment -- even though many UPC bigwigs gave lip-service to supporting the idea of a federation of East Africa.
Instead, we are reminded constantly on how numerous and even popular they are in Uganda, etc. A crime, especially against humanity, is still a crime -- regardless on how many people perpetrate it. The Nazis, too, were also once numerous, wielded enormous powere not just over indiviadual life and death but over entire nations, and even deluded themseves that their Reich lasting 1,000 years, etc. I won't bore you with historical facts as to how they ended up or how quickly they got there.
However, I pose a theoretic question to you: if free and fair nation-wide elections were held in Uganda today, and there were exactly two parties in the running; namely UPC (Obote) and NRM (Museveni), who do you think would win the majority vote in the country? Why would that be the outcome?
That is reality.

If there is nothing left to be discussed or debated on federalism in Uganda, it is better one keeps their mouth shut rather than sowing discord by other means. The tirade you have launched recently against UPC and its members has no place in a place like Uganda where we are searching for that moral fibre which has been destroyed for forty years. I am not a UPC member nor any other political party in Uganda, but I disagree with the biting attack you have run against the party for the last several days. There will be a time and place when you can happily smear campaign the party, for now we are seeking for partnership with all Ugandans of whatever color, belief and creed. We need to build friendship not more enemies so that we can do away with the war in the north, so that we can do away with the laws that enshirine privileged positions to the few in Uganda...If we continue to approach Uganda's poblem from the standpoint of a destructive past, the kind of new spirit---the sp
irit of the three P's...Peace and Prosperity through Partnership will never arrive.
