President Yoweri Museveni visited Lira Referral Hospital yesterday and made a public apology for the massacre, writes Vision Reporter and Agencies Blaming his army for having allowed the attack to take place, he stressed yet again that the LRA would be defeated militarily.

"The commanders did not coordinate well," Museveni told reporters outside Lira hospital after he visited about 50 injured survivors of Saturday's raid on Barlonyo camp in northern Uganda by raiders presumed to be members of the rebel Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). "We have got a big struggle, but we shall win. We have won previous battles," said Museveni, an army general who led a guerrilla movement that seized power in Kampala in 1986.Relevant Links




A sad-looking Museveni walked around the Lira district hospital wards, stopping to enquire on the condition of patients. "All these burns!" he remarked when he stood beside a girl with severe burns all over her body.Museveni was later due to visit the scene of the massacre. Roman Catholic missionaries in Lira said 32 more bodies had been discovered near the site of Barlonyo camp. Meanwhile, another five people among the injured in Lira hospital had died, bringing the total death toll to 257, IRIN reported yesterday.
