The Democratic Party (DP) yesterday said President Yoweri Museveni should accept defeat in the war against Joseph Kony's LRA and go to exile, reports Anne Mugisa. They also called for international military intervention in the north to stop the 18-year war.

DP stalwarts told journalists at a press briefing that Museveni should learn from former Liberian president Charles Taylor to accept defeat and go to exile.Party president general Paul Ssemwogerere said the Government did not have the will or the means to end the war militarily. He said the Government did not have the will to end the war peacefully either."Now we are saying that it is time for us to demand a national intervention. This should be a national project," Ssemwogerere said.

DP members who included MPs Ogenga Latigo, Issa Kikungwe and Ssebuliba Mutumba said the Government had tribalised the Kony war leading to troubles in Lango region. The other members who attacked the Government were Damiano Lubega and lawyers Joseph Balikuddembe and Eriasi Lukwago. They said the Government refused the peaceful option to end the war and 18 years later, they were calling on the International Criminal Court and the African Brigade to deal with Kony. They said in Teso and Lango the Government tribalised the war.

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the state."
