Don't fight Acholi, JEEMA tells Langi

KAMPALA - Justice Forum party (JEEMA) President Muhammad K. Mayanja has advised the Langi against directing their anger at their neighbours.

"If there is any body else to absorb the blame for the war besides the rebels, it is the NRM government.

The NRM government's obstinate refusal to explore none military options to this crisis is the source of this bloodshed," Mr Mayanja said in a statement issued on March 1.

He said that despite promising attempts to negotiate an end to the war in Southern Sudan, which has a lot of bearing on the war in northern Uganda, the NRM Government was yet to come up with any clear strategy to bring peace to the north.

"The President is still obsessed with capturing and killing Kony as if the capture of Saddam Hussein in Iraq was enough to bring peace to Iraq," Mayanja said.

His statement was in response to the February 21 killing of about 200 people at Barlonyo camp in Lira by the LRA rebels.

Mayanja however said that the spill over of tribal sentiments against the Acholi was wrong.

"We would like therefore to caution the people of Lira against victimising Acholi. The ordinary Acholi is as innocent as the Langi and must not be victimised.

The Acholi are as much of a victim as the Langi are," he said.
