THE Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebellion in the north has led to acute food shortage in Lira district."We are desperate and helpless. There is a disaster here. We appeal to everyone to come to our rescue," district chairman Franco Ojur said recently.
Ojur said the IDPs last received humanitarian assistance in December, when each family member got a mug of maize flour and beans.District authorities said over 300,000 of the 750,000 people in Lira are internally displaced persons.
State minister for youth and child affairs Felix Okot Ogong said there is poor sanitation."About 50,000 people share a borehole, and it takes four hours for them to get water," he said.
"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the state."
- Dr. Joseph M. Goebbels - Hitler's propaganda minister
