Ssenyange:
I sure do agree with you that changing our names is not easy. However, I'm in that process and time will tell, I will change my name. And I mean a legal change of my name! This Arab name (Rehema) will be dropped in favor of a Kiganda-like name (Zakoomu?). For Islam was about changing the soul to return back to Allah and not the name. Prophet Jesus preached that "your body is your temple" and not your name. The name shall not take me to heaven, but rather my actions and faith in Allah.
My new name will be Zakoomu Mukooza. Why do you think I silence the name Rehema, and sign my postings as "Zakoomu R."?? I purposely silence Rehema (into "R.") and let my Zakoomu name ruin, and fill these discussion groups. To hell with these Arabic or Western names that have nothing to do with my identity and my ancestors!
My kids will never ever have an Arabic or Western name! That is an insult to our ancestors and future offsprings! We need to get out of this colonial, inferior, slave mentality, were Africans think that they are incomplete without these foreign names!
For all members on these forums, from today onwards address me as Zakoomu or Mukooza. Don't you ever insult me with this (Rehema) name! I'm to change my email address name to "Zakoomu Mukooza" on [EMAIL PROTECTED]. I've always been in this process anyway, this aint new to a great mind like mine.
Ssenyange, what did you name your daughter?? Did you continue with the colonial name "Harriet"?? You should never insult your daughter with that colonial name ever again, not even your children to come.
What is the use of Baptism of a toddler/infant?? Prophet Jesus was baptised as an adult with full knowledge of what he was doing. Are you people really "Christians-(followers of the Christ)"?? This toddler/infant baptism is not in line with following the Christ's adult baptism. Check into that, for that's erronous teaching right there!
In future, I'm to build the Zakoomu Empire with the logo name of "Zakoomu". Just like the Trump empire! Don't be surprised in future to see my businesses in Uganda with their logo name "Zakoomu". Heh, that's how we are goin' it, playa!
I hate the excessive usage of words like enterprizes, business, LTD, .. and sons, etc on Ugandan businesses. My empire will be in pure native Luganda or Luganda-like phrases. Names like; Nyumba ya Zakoomu, Ddukka lya Zakoomu, Wooteri ya Zakoomu, Mizigo gya Zakoomu, Kolerero lya Zakoomu, Nnimiro ya Zakoomu, Katale ka Zakoomu, Oluguudo Zakoomu, etc! This is how far I will take it! You watch, I got my money and life in my body, why not take my dreams to the next level?

I agree with you on the so called "christian" names.
However, you're one sided because you did not mention Arabic names ( call it
Islamic) like your, Rehema. Its disgusting to hear African s calling them
selves Reagan, Clinton, Wilson, Henry, Allan, Roberts, Harriet. Its also
disgusting to hear African naming themselves Rehema, Saleh,Azziz, etc. All
these are european and Arabic names which have their meanings that we
Africans do know. The only exception is where the naming was from a famous
religious person like the desciples of Jesus, those men of Mohammed who took
over his work when he died ( desciples?) etc. I know many Kenyans who are
naming Africa names of Martyrs like Kizito, Gonzaga, etc. I salute them.
The religious leaders in Uganda\ Africa are so white
washed such that they insist that converts pick up a foreing name ( e.g
above) no matter what they mean. 4 years ago I read a news story that the
Imam of Makerere University was very critical of Mu7's brother, Akandwanaho,
calling him self Salim Saleh, that he's disguising himself as a Moslem.
Since when was Salim Saleh or Rehema, declared Muslim na mes? At my work
place we have 2 Lebanese christian Arabs whose names are famous among Uganda
Moslems ( Magid,Salim, Abed Saida etc). Also, The fomer Prime Minister of
Iraq, Tariq Azziz was a Christian since birth. His names are Arabic. Have
they ever ( Arabs) raised an alarm that Azziz should drop his names? No.
Why? Because they know that the names are Arabic and he's an Arab.
Rehema and all of you who may be in contacts with religious
leader in Uganda should educate them. I was blinded until 6 years ago when
my Daughter was being Baptized. I wanted to give her one of my sisters
names- Harriet. When I took the names to the Jamaican Bishop of the church,
in Ottawa, he said " Deborah is a biblical name. What about Harriet? Where
did you get this name and why? ..Is it after a famous Black American woman
who resisted racism? .....What about Nangonzi? ....I looked a fool infront
of this Jamaican Bishop. My consolation was the explan ation of Nangonzi. He
then replied : you see, Africans have great names....names with great
meanings... but I dont understand why you name your daughte Harriet". Up to
now I wish it was easy to change names I would drop my name, James, to
either Kiwanuka or Yakobo. You can drop the names but not the names on the
transcripts. Its a not easy.
