Ugandan-born trade activist prof. Yash Tandon has dismissed the current political debate as diversionary, reports Joe Nam.
He said Ugandas and Africas disadvantaged role in the global trading system is what should top debate in the country.
The most important thing for the country now is not whether the Constitution is amended to allow a third term or not, but Ugandas position in the global trading system. This is what has a far-reaching impact as every country depends on what it produces and sells.

Ugandans will be shocked to wake up one day and find that all their basic rights to livelihood, natural and intellectual resources have been unwittingly signed away at WTO (World Trade Organisation) ministerial summits and other meetings, h
e said.
He said African Government officials were under intense pressure from foreign powers to sign enslaving treaties without the knowledge of their peoples.
