UNPROTECTED sex in camps has led to the increase of HIV/AIDS expectant mothers and early pregnancies in Gulu district.The vicar of Gulu Diocese, Richard Kayondo, said recently while visiting Lugazi Bishop, Mathias Ssekamanya.
"HIV/AIDS cases among expectant mothers at Lacor Hospital are on the increase. Parents have sex openly to preoccupy their minds of the LRA atrocities," Kayondo said.He said there was no sexual respect among people living in camps."There is no difference between a father, son, daughter, friend, relative, and mother.
This has increased the spread of sexually transmitted diseases in the camps," he said.Kayondo urged the Government to end the northern war to prevent the spread of diseases.He warned the youth against engaging in unprotected sex.Kayondo said the Government's use of arms to end the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency was not a remedy because it increased suffering.Ssekamanya criticised the Government for using civilian militia to fight the LRA.
"The LRA and the army have been fighting for 18 years, they have experience compared to the militia who have trained for only three months," he said.Ssekamanya criticised the Government for failing to end the war.
"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the state."
