Land Row Grips Kibaale
By Amlan Tumusiime
KIBAALA district has ordered 100 herdsmen from Kiboga district to leave the district immediately.
We dont want to witness more land-related problems. These people should leave immediately, the chief administrative officer, Simon Kimono, said.
Kimono was speaking on Tuesday after the recent clash in which 20 cows were killed and an unknown number of herdsmen injured following the herdsmens entry into Nalweyo sub-county last week.
Sources said the herdsmen, with an estimated herd of 20,000 cows, were reportedly grazing their animals on peoples crops.
Kimono said the herdsmen, originally destined for Mubende district, had increased tension over land in Kibale.
He said similar cases were reported in Kisiita and Nkooko sub-counties.
The Kibale resident district commissioner, Ali Mutaawe, LC5 chairperson George Nyamyaka and Kimono visited Nalweyo this week.
Last year, the district witn
essed clashes over land between the indigenous Banyoro and the mainly Bakiga immigrants, who the former accused of grabbing their land.
