KAMPALA Female employees at the Bank of Uganda can now wear trousers to the office.
The bank has had a longstanding dress code, which barred all female employees from putting on trousers when in office.
The changes came as a result of the entrance of Ms Charlotte Kutesa Muhoozi. She is the wife of Maj. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Highly placed sources told Sunday Monitor that the daughter-in-law of the First Family was not comfortable wearing dresses; she preferred trousers.
Management was caught in a fix. Ms Muhoozi could neither be turned away at the gate nor could she be told that trousers had been outlawed.
However, the banks public relations director, Mr J.B Walusimbi downplayed Ms Muhoozis influence on the change of the dress code.
We have many young ladies who clamoured for change of the dress code. They raised the matter with management, who in turn presented the issue to the governor who approved the wearing of trousers, Walusimbi told Sunday Monitor on yesterday.
He however said one has to put on a coat just like the males are required to wear a jacket and necktie.
Staff at the bank described Ms Muhoozi as a very amiable person who even rejected being given a special office and bodyguards at her place of work.
Ms Muhoozi is one of the senior banking officers at the central bank. She holds a masters degree in economics and reportedly emerged best candidate during her job interview.
Ms Muhoozi, a daughter of minister of state for Finance, Sam Kutesa, has been working with the bank for the past one and half years.
Maj. Muhoozi is President Yoweri Musevenis son and is a senior commander of the Presidential Guard Brigade (PGB).
He is currently in Israel attending an artillery commanders course. |
